THE PIANO

 The Piano

Black and white notes broke the woeful silence. Playing the piano all by himself, the old man stuck the keys in the hall of depression. As the man placed his fragile fingers over the keys, a chest full of precious memories and forlorn memories were unleashed into the world. The music, which was melancholy and mesmerizing reflected the man's hard time. His wedding ring shone and glimmered in the light and was sparkling just like glitter. The man's life was nothing like glitter. He let his fingers free and they danced along the keys making the first memory appear. The longing love he ached for.

The man felt his wife fade and gently take a seat next to him, her presence made the man feel soothed as he could feel all his worries fade away. The man and the wife glanced into each other's eyes as his beloved wife said ‘i love you. Goodbye.’ The words he wanted to hear were finally said. As her breath ran cold, she kissed and vanished into thin air. The man smiled slightly and then looked worried.

Continuous gunshots entered the man's mind as if he was living that same day all again. Suddenly each cord he played sounded like a gunshot. His head suddenly had a faded medic hat while his brother covered him. His brother climbed up a wall to shoot but he ended up getting shot at. His brave and amazing brother lay in the man's hand. At that moment the man started to doubt his capabilities as a medic. He should have been able to save his brothers' life but instead a pool of scarlet scattered around him. That day the man was heartbroken. Terrified. Broken. The word bang had shot his brain.

Next, he saw his favorite memories- his childhood. A familiar emotion of happiness washed over him as he rode on his chocolate brown wooden horse. As he rode on, he imagined himself all delighted and carefree. Soon the boy on the horse turned into his grandson who in real was galloping about and then took a seat next to his grandpa. Together they shared the last keys on the song and hugged each other tightly...
